Baseball
Jeff Randazzo, Pitching & Owner, MapleZone
Jeff was a Minnesota Twins fourth round draft pick in 1999 from Cardinal O’Hara High School. He holds many honors and achievements including the 1999 Daily Times Athlete of the Year, 2000 Midwest League All-Star and Baseball America’s 19th Best Prospect in 2000. With six years of professional baseball experience, Jeff has been providing pitching instruction for the past eight years. Chris Madonna, Hitting, Catching, Infield & Director, MapleZone
A graduate of the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, Madonna was a catcher for the Tar Heels, and was later signed by the New York Mets. In addition to the Mets, he played professionally for the Boston Red Sox, Oakland Athletics, and New York Yankees; he also played on the international scene hitting at a .400 clip for Cantine Ceci Parma in Italy's professional baseball league in 2000, and was selected to represent Team Italy in the 2000 Sydney Olympics and the 2001 World Cup as well. In 2008, he became Assistant Coach at Division I Villanova University, and served as the program's hitting coach; under Madonna's tutelage in 2008, the team posted a .383 on-base percentage, a .405 slugging percentage, led the Big East Conference in walks, and belted 41 home runs, the program's highest total in the last decade. Ty Gainey, Hitting & Fielding
Ty was selected by the Houston Astros in the second round of the 1979 amateur draft. His first appearance in the major leagues was in 1985 as an outfielder for the Houston Astros. Ty played twenty-one years of professional baseball including three MLB seasons as an outfielder with the Astros organization. In 2002, he was the hitting coach for the Wilmington Blue Rocks where they finished 2 nd in the league in batting average & 3 rd in the league in home runs. Mike Costanzo Hitiing & Infielding
Mike Costanzo grew up in Springfield, Delaware County PA, and currently resides in Glen Mills, PA. He Attended Archbishop Carroll High School in Radnor PA, where he was a Third baseman and Pitcher. Mike was named 1st team All Catholic and All Delco, three consecutive years from 2000 to 2002, along with winning 3 Catholic League Championship Titles in 1999, 2001, 2002. In 2002 Mike was named by the Delco Times, Daily News and Philadelphia Inquirer, as their High School Player of the Year. Mike attended Coastal Carolina University from 2003 to 2005, where he was named 1st Team All-American following his sophomore season in 2004, and then again after his junior season in 2005. Mike was named Player of the Year by the Big South Conference in 2004 and 2005. He also was named Big South Conference Male Athlete of the Year his Junior year 2005. Following his Junior season in 2005, Mike was drafted by his hometown team the Philadelphia Phillies with their first pick in the second round-(65th overall). Mike's professional career started in Single A ball 2005 with the Batavia Muckdogs, in The New York-Penn League were he received post season All-Star honors as a Third Baseman. In 2006 Mike played in High Class A Clearwater in The Florida State League where he again was named to the Florida League All star team. He was also named by Baseball America as the top defensive player at Third base in The Florida State League. In 2007 Mike played for AA Reading Phillies in Te Eastern League where he posted a .270 BA belting 27 homeruns and driving in 86 RBI and was ranked as the #5 Prospect by Baseball America in the Philadelphia Phillies organization. During the offseason in November 2007, Mike was traded to the Houston Astros for Brad Lidge , and 34 days later was traded again to the Baltimore Orioles for Miguel Tejada.
Dan Hefton, Hitting and All Phases of Defense
Played 4 years at Chichester H.S. in Boothwyn and was selected All Section II in 1961 & 1962, and made All Delco in 1962. Had played at West Chester State College and was selected to All Conference Team. He played 2 years in York Pennsylvania in the Pittsburg Pirates organization. Coached 2 years as assistant/hitting for St. Joseph’s University, 2 years at Sun Valley H.S. in Aston and 4 years at Northley Middle School in Aston. Also coached 11 years at Aston A.A. 13-15U teams in Co-Del teener League. *Started first professional season in Kingsport, Tenn. with the New York Mets Rookie Affiliate team. Finishing the season with the Brooklyn Cyclones, the Mets Low-A affiliate. Posted a 1-1 record with a 4.24 era in 19 appearences, having 25 strikeouts in 23.1 innings pitched coming out of the bullpen.
Bill Ford, Pitching/Hitting
Over 30 years of coaching experience at the youth, high school, and collegiate levels. Was the head coach at Malvern Preparatory School for 7 years with a record of 110 and 42. Had 38 former players play college ball and 3 drafted players. Bill was also the pitching coach at Strath Haven and Bonner High School. He spent 4 years at the junior college level as head coach at Williamson School with a record of 46-12. In high school, Bill was All-Catholic pitcher at St. James and played at Widener University and Philadelphia University. Bill was the pitching coach for Neumann College for the 2009 season.
A graduate of Penn Wood High School, Lansdowne, PA in 1988, John continued his baseball career as a pitcher for the Community College of Philadelphia. John began youth baseball instruction in 1993 as the head baseball coach for Friends Select School in Philadelphia and then went on to coach high school baseball for fifteen years including a three year stint at Bonner High School. John is currently the head coach at Neumann College.
Brett Wallace, Hitting, Catching, Fielding
A four-year letter winner at Avon Grove High School, Brett continued his baseball career as the starting catcher for West Chester University, where he led his team to the college world series and received 3 rd team All American honors. He began his professional career with the Gary Southshore Railcats (Northern League) in 2007 where he continues to play. The Railcats won the Northern League championship in 2007 and finished second in 2008. Brett was the starting catcher for the Railcats and the 2008 All-Star Team in the Northern League. Rob Itri, Hitting
Rob is a graduate of Marple Newtown High School and Division 1 Brigham Young University. At BYU, he held a career batting average of .310. He also played in the United States premier summer collegiate leagues: New England and Cape Cod. In 2005, he earned league MVP in the semi-pro Delco League with a career .374 avg. He has developed cutting edge hitting techniques working with Major and Minor League coaches. Rob is currently the assistant baseball coach at Arcadia University.
Softball:
Jamie Pena, Hitting, Catching, Pitching, & Softball Director
Jamie's softball experience began as a four year letter winner at Sun Valley High School. She continued her softball career at West Chester University, where she was a catcher and utility player. She began her coaching career at Swarthmore College as the assistant coach to Softball Olympic Gold Medalist Renee Clark. From there she continued to coach at Cabrini College and West Chester University. During the two years at West Chester University, Jamie worked closely with the pitchers, catchers, and outfielders in the program. Her experience as a softball clinician has enabled her to teach all aspects of the game. Jamie was the head softball instructor at Grand Slam for five years, before joining the Maple Zone team. Jamie is currently a teacher at Ridley High School and is involved with their Softball program.
Shannon Padula, Hitting, Pitching
Shannon's softball experience began as a four year letter winner at Hopatcong High School in Hopatcong, New Jersey. She continued her softball career at West Chester University, where she was a four year starting pitcher. Shannon broke 12 school pitching records in her 4 year career. Some of her records include career wins, strike outs, shutouts, and a career 2.55 ERA in 721.1 innings pitched. She was a 2007 2nd team All-PSAC selection. She also holds many single season records which includes being the first pitcher in school history to have more than 18 wins...finishing with 24. She helped her team make back to back NCAA Regional appearances pitching every game in the post season. She currently plays summer ball for the NJ Elite who is Nationally known in 23U.
Caitlin Hanrahan, Hitting, Catching
Caitlin's softball experience began as a four year letter winner at Springfield High School. She continued her softball career at Neumann University where she was the Catcher, a two-year Captain, and two-time team MVP. In her four year career, Caitlin led her team to three Conference Championships, and two NCAA Regional appearances. Caitlin broke several school records at Neumann, including single season homeruns, career homeruns, career doubles, and RBI's. She is nationally ranked for RBI's and doubles.. Caitlin earned first team all-conference honors in her freshman, sophomore, and senior year. She was also the recipient of the NCFA All-America Scholar-Athlete award, and First team All-Region in 2009. In 2007, Caitlin was selected to play for the StormUSA, a women's major ASA club team in Corona, CA, where she batted over .300 as a Utility player/Catcher on the National Championship team. Caitlin currently lives in Springfield, PA and hopes to work closely with dedicated softball players in the area to contribute to the growth, promotion, and love of the sport.
Joe is a former pitching coach at Widener University and St. Joseph’s University with 12 years of coaching experience. Joe began his career playing baseball and switched to softball at age 28 helping pitch his team to the ASA Class A State Championship. With 34 years of Major Class A fastpitch softball experience, Joe was inducted into the Delaware County Softball Hall of Fame in April, 2006. Joe currently coaches at Archbishop Prendie.
